“Never be afraid to try something new with your hair.”

ALEX

Who or what inspired you to become a Hairstylist?

Since childhood, I have been involved in art, and as I grew older, I began to see hair as an extension of that world. The color, the styles, and the meaning behind each choice began pulling more and more of my interest and attention, so after graduating high school, I enrolled in a cosmetology program. Since that day, I have never looked back!

What is your favorite part about being a Hairstylist?

Along with the ever-evolving trends that keep me learning day-to-day, I’ve come to cherish the connections I’ve made with my clients through providing a service that makes them feel confident and beautiful.

From your expertise and experience, please share 1-2 helpful tips you think are most important to share with clients.

The most frequent tip I give my clients is to always have a good shampoo, conditioner, and heat protectant at home. This will save the health of your scalp and hair, preserve color, and allow for ease of styling. It’s your crown, so we need to treat it as such. Second, never be afraid to try something new with your hair. You’ll never know if you like something unless you try it. Have fun with it!

How long have you been a Hairstylist?

I have been hairstyling for 9 years.

MARISSA

Who or what inspired you to become a Hairstylist?

My Aunt was a Hairstylist and she was my inspiration. We would attend hair shows together when I was younger and that’s when I fell in love with hair. The art of creating chic and effortless up-dos, as well as doing blowouts and formal hairstyles intrigued me. From classic, to effortless or edgy, I love them all!

When you are going to have your hair styled, have clean hair. I always like to add my own product that works best with the style that I am going to create for the client. Also, it’s always safe to say not to do any drastic changes to your hair before any big event.

How long have you been a Hairstylist?

I have been a hairstylist for 21 years.

What are some of your favorite products?

Products by Kenra because the quality + smell of their products are amazing and they don’t get too hard or crunchy. I also love multiple products from Ouai and Olaplex.

I always take the approach that less is more.”

NICOLE

Who or what inspired you to become a Hairstylist?

I was inspired by the beauty of women from a very young age. I was obsessed with fashion and beauty magazines in my early teens and twenties and always tried to replicate the looks on myself and friends.

What is your favorite part about being a Hairstylist?

My favorite part about being a hairstylist is that everyday is something new and different. Each job takes me to a new location and the inspiration around each job is always changing.

From your expertise and experience, please share 1-2 helpful tips you think are most important to share with clients.

I always take the approach that less is more. That goes from product to styles-- I don’t like things to look overdone or like anyone tried too hard. If you have curly hair, I think you should rock it, instead of fighting with a blowdryer everyday. Or, if your hair is on the finer side, find a hair cut that can flatters that. It’s all about embracing what you have. On that note, it’s always fun to change up your look on special occasions.

How long have you been a Hairstylist?

I have been a hairstylist for 19 years.

What are some of your favorite products?

It’s easy to become a product junkie in this business.  I do like to try all different products but I always make sure to have staples in my kit: Bumble and Bumble thickening spray, tonic, thick mousse, and curl cream are definitely my go tos. I also use a lot of Oribe’s finishing sprays, the Dry Texture, Beach Wave and Thick Spray are all favorites.

A cool tip I like to always use is to prolong a blowout or style is wash just your bangs let’s say on day 3/4 if you find your root being a little overly oily and sometimes dry shampoo isn’t cutting it. Blow dry the bangs and dry shampoo the rest and it looks like a fresh voluminous style.

“I love all the different places my work allows me to go, and all the wonderful people I get to work with.”

ZALEY

Who or what inspired you to become a Hairstylist?

Both of my parents are chiropractors. When I was touring chiropractic colleges with my mom, she asked me what I thought. I said, “I keep thinking of how I would do every ones hair”.  She responded with, “Well, I think we are in the wrong place”. She found the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, and two months later I moved across the country and became a student! Vidal Sassoon, the creative team and teachers were the real inspiring figures to me becoming a hairstylist. I continue to be inspired by other creatives around me.

What is your favorite part about being a Hairstylist?

I love all the different places my work allows me to go, and all the wonderful people I get to work with. I love being on set one day, to working at a house call the next. I enjoy working at events and charities, and being a part of someone’s special day!

From your expertise and experience, please share 1-2 helpful tips you think are most important to share with clients.

I tell clients who want to grow their hair to have a dry trim every 4 months to keep their ends healthy and growing.

I encourage my clients to work with, or lightly enhance their natural hair color and texture. Be realistic with your hair goals, have someone amazing execute them, and be patient. Sometimes hair goals are a journey.

How long have you been a Hairstylist?

I have been in the industry for 13 years!

What are some of your favorite products?

Some of my favorite products include Oribe Dry Texture, Kevin Murphy Super GOO, Shu Uemura Polishing Milk, Redkin Wax Blast, and TIGI Queen for a Day.
