“Making people feel confident and beautiful is a special gift and probably my favorite part about being a Make-up Artist.”
ABBY
Who or what inspired you to become a Make-up Artist?
A passion for beauty has been in my blood since birth. It's an organic interest that luckily turned into a career.
What is your favorite part about being a Make-up Artist?
It may sound cliche, but making people feel confident and beautiful is a special gift and probably my favorite part about being a Make-up Artist. I also love the creative aspect of it, because I'm the least artistic person otherwise, so playing with makeup is super gratifying.
From your expertise and experience, please share 1-2 helpful tips you think are most important to share with clients.
- Don't try new facials, brow treatments, or anything new before your wedding- that is not the time to experiment! Stick to a simple and regimented routine that you know works for your skin.
- Trust the Make-up Artist that you hired. If you are not used to wearing a lot of make-up, let your Artist take the lead, they will ask you questions first and then trust her/his judgment.
How long have you been a Make-up Artist?
I have been doing makeup (friends, family, etc) all my life but professionally for 13 years.

I love Dior complexion products, Charlotte Tilbury lip liners, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray (spray onto a puff and then pat into skin), Bobbi Brown face base and eye base, Anastasia brow freeze...the list could go on and on and on!!
“I was always good at art and began doing make-up on my friends at a young age.”
BARBIE
Who or what inspired you to become a Make-up Artist?
I was always good at art and began doing make-up on my friends at a young age. While in college I auditioned for and began dancing for the San Diego Chargers. While on the team I helped some of my teammates with makeup which proved valuable in my career. After working for a prestigious artistry make-up brand, a close friend introduced me to Laura Mercier cosmetics. I began working with Laura as a freelance artist, moved on to being a national make-up artist and then became a global make-up artist.

“Skincare is super important before any makeup application. It helps skin look flawless and feel flawless.”
CECI
Who or what inspired you to become a Make-up Artist?
In 2002, I attended Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Sacramento, CA. There was a Make-up Artist who did my make-up, I don’t remember the makeup artist's name, but the transformation he did for me changed my feeling and understanding towards the art of makeup. His way of moving the brushes & then seeing myself in the mirror afterward, I fell in love with his work, and it inspired me to become a Professional Makeup Artist.
What is your favorite part about being a Make-up Artist?
The connection I make with each client.

“It’s a magical thing what an artist can do with a brush and the right product.”
MANDY
Who or what inspired you to become a Make-up Artist?
I wasn’t inspired by a specific person or event. I have always known that being a make-up artist was something I wanted to do. From when I was a three year old little girl putting make-up on my grandmother, to when I was at sleepaway camp doing all the girls make-up for the dances. It has always been in me, this need to beautify.
What is your favorite part about being a Make-up Artist?
I think my favorite part about being a make-up artist is the process. Watching someones features come alive. The hollows and highlights. Seeing the dimension in their face. It’s a magical thing what an artist can do with a brush and the right product.

The whole point of make-up is to make a woman (or a man) look as beautiful as she/he can, not to overtake the person. So my first piece of advice is to start with a little and as you get more comfortable then you can add more. My second piece of advice is to focus on perfecting the skin. Layer on really good skin care, hydrating the skin very well. Then take your time applying the foundation. Making sure is it well blended and not to thick.
How long have you been a Make-up Artist?
I have been a “working” make-up artist for 25 years. I think the defining moment of when I felt like a professional was when I moved to Los Angeles and hit the ground running. I consider everything before that my “education.”
What are some of your favorite products?
I have so many products that I love so its very hard to narrow it down. I will say I am a tried and true lover of Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation. I have tried so many and always come back to it. If I have to pick a second it is the beauty blender. The way that that little puff blends foundation is like no other!
“Always remember make-up is meant to be fun!”
MATILDA
Who or what inspired you to become a Make-up Artist?
From a very young age I remember always being mesmerized with the way my mom and sister would do their makeup. From my moms frosty blue eyeshadow and bright red lips (so 80s right?) to my sisters black eyeliner and frosty pink lips. I would sit and watch my sister warm up her eyeliner with a lighter and I would always as a million questions. There was something magical and exciting about all the different types of makeup and the application of it. Here I am today, in my happy place doing what I’ve always loved so much.

A few fun tips that I use even on myself.
• TIGHT LINING is a must for me. Especially on those days when you don’t want to wear any eyeliner but still need that definition and the appearance of thicker eyelashes, lining the inside of your upper waterline will do the trick! Make sure it’s waterproof!
• Always remember makeup is meant to be fun! Be daring and willing to step out of your comfort zone. You’ll be surprised at the endless options you can find which will flatter you're features the most.

Around the age of 8 I was introduced to the world of makeup by my mother. I have fond memories of going to makeup counters with my mom and then secretly going through her free gift bags and putting makeup on myself. Everyone has their own take on what is natural or glam, so having some sort of Pinterest or pictures will help a lot with the heaviness of the application. Don't ever be afraid to voice what you want/don't want because it's important to feel comfortable in the makeup you're wearing.
